okay, i'm back from china. and i survived, haha. and i prefer beijing to shanghai [:
- i went to six citites in nine days. first to shanghai, suzhou, hangzhou, nanjing, wuxi, back to shanghai and then off to beijing where i spent three days. we had to wake up at 0630 every morning and it was pure torture, lol.
- i stayed at a different hotel every night for the first six days. and not to sound like a spoilt brat here, but i've never stayed in a three star hotel ever, until now. haha. at least in beijing, we stayed at a five star hotel that was so pretty, haha. the beds were soft and hot water there never runs out, so thank god for that [:
- i was mesmerised by the gorgeous cloudless skies in shanghai, that would glow brilliantly whenever the sun rises or sets. it looks just like a postcard.
- we had ten course meals every lunch and dinner complete with beer, haha. the food there were kinda oily and salty even though we requested for them to go easy on the seasoning and stuff. haha, so no wonder i look like a bloated whale now [:
- from shanghai pudong airport to the city, i took a maglev train that travels at friggin' 430km/h! haha, it was so cool and everything outside went whizzing by. lol.
- honestly, the shopping there sucks. i've never hated shopping so much before. it's just urgh. haha, and it's the only holiday i've been on where i only bought a single article of clothing and that doesn't even count! next year, i'm going back to bangkok, haha.
- the toilets there are simply amazing, really. i've never seen anything like that in all my life and i seriously don't think that i would want to see anymore of them after this experience. some places don't have toilets, they have canals. hahaha, how utterly disgusting. i'll post pictures next time. i don't know why, but china people do not have a habit of closing doors when they do their businesses. and i got the shock of my life when i thought there was an available cubicle and proceeded to open the door, when lo and behold, there was some lady inside doing something that i do not wish to see. *shudders* oh, the horrors of it. oh, the best part is, the cubicle doors are really tiny so when i stand up, i am able to see my head and half of my chest in the mirror. it made me feel really tall for a moment. and if you are not careful and just turn your head a little, you would get a 'wonderful' view of what's happening next door. gosh, it must really suck to be ong for that period, haha.
- oh, my bus driver wears a tuxedo to work, haha. china is a bicycle country, and i have never seen so many bicycles on the street unless there's a bicycle marathon going on or something. haha. and they grow purple cabbages on the road side, hahaha. or was it lettuces?
- their use of english is really funny and will make you chuckle to yourself. hahaha. oh, one example would be there was this cliff and next to the edge of the cliff was a sign saying: for your safety, please do not jump. hahaha, what a joke. oh, normally a hotel has carparks for basement, lobbies for first floors and so on and so forth, except that they don't call it basement there. they call it -1, haha.
- for the first six days, the weather and temperature was bearable around 7 to 12 degrees Celsius, it would only get chilly when there are strong winds so it was very cooling. however, in beijing, it was totally painful. first day in beijing, it was 12 degrees and the next day was -2. it dropped like 14 degrees uh. at night, the temperature was about -10. i wished i was Jacob. i was so scared i would get frostbite, haha. i couldn't even feel my toes, fingers and i couldn't move my mouth at all. and inside my head, i was like hello, i still want to talk! hahaha. my fingers were wrinkled like century old prunes and they started peeling. oh, there was something that i was so angry with at myself. so, we went to see the bird nest and the water cube. the bus couldn't go in any further so those who wanted to take pictures had to go down and half the bus stayed inside because it was just too cold. so, i got down and damn, was it freezing! so i went to the bird nest and took a picture. the water cube was like another 100m further and i so badly wanted to take a picture of it because it was just so pretty against the dusky sky and was filled with red lights that would change colours. however, in order to prevent my legs from turning into icicles, i went back to the bus. omg, after that, i deeply regretted. *sighs* oh well.
- the people there are pushy, loud, rude and really gross. well, not all. just the minority i suppose. they literally push you away when you're standing in their way, they talk like the person next to them is 10 acres away, and they really spit every where. they spit into the sea, into potted plants at restaurants, into flowers, onto the road and anywhere else possible. eew. i think they are somehow aspiring to be like merlions or something.
so, that's my china trip. haha, pictures will be up next [:
